Animal Services and the ADA
Researched by: Edward
I called the Department of Justice pertaining to there laws dealing with service animals as demonstrated with in the ADA. They have stated that all rules placed by coordinators must be willing to change due to the specific training of the animal. You may ask that leash laws be enforced, except in cases where the animal have been trained for mobility issues or retrieval. You may ask what the specific training of the animal , but NOT the person's disabilities. If the animal is being rowdy or disorderly you may ask the owner and service animal to leave. They stressed to me that these animals are not pets, they should be treated as you would treat an adult. They are also allowed anywhere that a human is allowed to go, including kitchens and dining areas.
I am glad that this has come up on this forum, especially with the aging pagan community and the diversified needs of our disabled pagan community. This year the pagan community in South Central Kentucky had to deal with ADA issues and festival planners re- adjusted accordingly to the provisions. ADA laws are national and final and they carry steep consequences and fines, all public festivals and public activities must coincide with ADA provisions.
